Direct access to senior management and a collaborative team make every challenge an opportunity for growth.
How did you get into the field of Data Engineering?
I've been passionate about computers since childhood, so I decided to pursue B.Tech in Computer Science. For Data Engineering, I didn’t choose it intentionally but got into it by chance. Early in my career, I was focused on Data Science, but I was assigned to a Cloud Data Engineering project at my first job. That experience sparked my interest, and since then, I’ve grown into the role of a Data Engineer.
What do you appreciate most about working in Data Engineering at Aays?
What I appreciate most about working here is the strong internal support and the positive work environment. You can directly approach senior management with any concerns, and they listen attentively, always making decisions that benefit everyone. The team is fantastic to collaborate with, making the experience even more enjoyable.
What is the biggest challenge you've faced while working at Aays, and how did you overcome it?
When I joined Aays, I didn’t have much hands-on experience with coding, which made client engagements and understanding their requirements a bit challenging. I gradually learned how to design efficient solutions. However, I picked up these skills here, thanks to my seniors who guided me on how to approach backend data engineering problems at Aays. I also worked on two projects simultaneously, which was a tough period, but it taught me how to manage my time effectively.
What advice would you give to someone starting out their career as a Data Engineer?
I would suggest that anyone starting as a Data Engineer should primarily focus on developing strong problem-solving skills because that is the core of everything. Additionally, mastering Python, SQL, Azure, Databricks, and Git is essential, as these are the fundamental building blocks of most cloud-based data engineering projects.
What's your favorite thing about working with your team at Aays?
The synchronization and coordination within the team, and reaching out to team members off shift hours without any hesitation, is the best thing I like. Also, discussing the final approach for any solution among the team and getting feedback and areas of improvement is great in my team. I mostly work with Saurabh Chakravarti and Abhinav Verma, and I can confidently say they are outstanding teammates to work with.
Who or what inspires you?
In life, I idolize Ratan Tata, and in the technology space, I am highly inspired by Elon Musk. However, as a Data Engineer, I'm inspired by the power of technology to solve complex problems of big data and transform data into meaningful insights. The advancement of cloud technologies and the opportunity to drive business decisions through data-driven solutions keep me motivated and excited about my work.
What activities do you enjoy outside of work? How do you maintain work-life balance?
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, playing video games, and strumming the guitar. To maintain a good work-life balance, I firmly believe that a healthy mind thrives in a healthy body, so I make sure to hit the gym for at least 40 minutes daily. My typical workday runs from 10 AM to 7 PM, leaving me a decent amount of time for extracurricular activities outside of my working hours.
How do you stay up to date with trends and developments in your field?
I believe the best way to stay updated with new developments in the technology I work on is by subscribing to official YouTube channels. I get notifications whenever there's an update on the channel, and watching a video is a quick and efficient way to grasp a lot of information in a short time. Moreover, I follow several blogging websites like Medium and community blogs that publish insightful articles in an easier way. Besides that, simply having discussions with colleagues during tea breaks is also a great way to stay updated and share knowledge. It’s an effective way to exchange ideas and learn about new trends or updates in our field.
