What sparked your interest in data engineering, and how has AI influenced your interest in this field?
Akshay: I have always been fascinated by how data can drive innovation and better decisions. I am also really passionate about AI, and I love how data engineering plays a key role in building the systems AI relies on. It’s exciting to be part of something so impactful.
What aspects of our company culture do you value most, especially in an environment where AI and data are at the forefront?
Akshay: Honestly, what I love the most about Aays' culture is the sense of teamwork and support. There are people whom I can reach out to, whether it's for solving a tricky problem or brainstorming ideas. This kind of collaboration makes work so much easier.
Another thing I really value is how approachable and open the management team is. It makes communication so much smoother and brings in transparency. And another factor is flexibility—we are trusted to manage our work in a way that suits us, which is a game-changer. It’s all these little things that make a big difference.
In your role as a data engineer, what has been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did you overcome it?
Akshay: One challenge I faced as a data engineer has been ensuring clear communication with clients and stakeholders, which sometimes made it hard to show the value of my work. To overcome this, I focused on better listening, improving documentation, and proactively sharing updates.
Another challenge was working with unfamiliar applications, but I took the ownership of the situation and made it a priority to learn and adapt quickly.
What advice would you give to someone starting a career in data engineering? Are there any skills or mindsets that you think are essential for success?
Akshay: My advice is to build a strong foundation in data systems, programming, and cloud tech. Master SQL, Python, PySpark, or Scala, and get hands-on with tools like Databricks, Azure, or AWS.
Stay curious, focus on problem-solving, and keep learning—this field evolves fast, so adaptability is key. Also, work on new applications with some accountability—it’s a great way to grow and sharpen your skills.
What do you enjoy most about collaborating with your data engineering team at Aays, especially when tackling complex challenges?
Akshay: What I love most about our data engineering team at Aays is how we come together to tackle tough problems. Everyone brings something unique to the table, and it’s exciting to brainstorm solutions and see ideas evolve. Dividing tasks based on our strengths makes the process smooth, and it’s amazing to see how we achieve great outcomes as a group.
Plus, celebrating the little wins along the way keeps the energy up! I also love sharing knowledge and adapting to different working styles—it has helped me grow both as an individual and as a team player.
Who or what inspires you to keep pushing the boundaries, especially with the rapid advancements in AI?
Akshay: My inspiration comes from my personal futuristic goals, my commitment to supporting my family, and my curiosity to see the magic of turning innovative ideas into real-world implementations. The excitement of contributing to ground-breaking advancements in DE and AI motivates me to continuously learn and push boundaries.
AI and data engineering are rapidly evolving. How do you stay updated on the latest AI tools, technologies, and industry trends?
Akshay: I keep myself updated by learning new tools and technologies that are in demand. Currently, I'm also pursuing higher education in AI and Data Science to stay on top of things. Along with that, I watch tutorials, read blogs, and dedicate time to hands-on practice to truly understand the latest trends. Tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI platforms are part of my daily routine, keeping me informed about emerging advancements and innovations.
What emerging trends or technologies in data engineering are you most excited about, and how do you see them shaping the future of the field?
Akshay: I'm really excited about how AI and quantum computing are going to change the tech world. I see a future where AI is behind major breakthroughs, solving problems and revolutionizing industries. Also, blockchain technology is something I'm keen on, especially when it comes to improving security and keeping data safe. These innovations will definitely make the world smarter, more secure, and more connected.
Outside of work, what activities help you recharge, and how do you manage a healthy work-life balance?
Akshay: I make sure to do some yoga every day to stay balanced, both physically and mentally. On weekends, I love playing cricket. I also make sure to spend quality time with my family, which helps me recharge. And when I have some free time, I like watching tutorials to learn new data engineering and AI skills and stay up-to-date in this fast-changing field.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people at Aays might not know?
Akshay: A fun fact about me is that I used to be really into karate and martial arts. At one point, I even thought about pursuing it more seriously, but now I use that same discipline and focus on my professional life. Not many people know about this side of me!
