The culture here encourages you to take on tough challenges, push boundaries, and always keep learning. It's an environment that really drives innovation and growth, which makes every day exciting - Sarthak Das

Sarthak Das, our Senior Data Engineer, talks about how being here at Aays has shaped his journey. From working on large-scale data pipelines to mentoring his team and diving into AI-driven automation, it has been a ride. What keeps him going? The challenges, the people, the fast-paced world of data engineering—always something new to learn, always pushing the limits. Know more about his journey in this interview.

What sparked your interest in data engineering?

Sarthak: I have always been fascinated by how technology can solve real-world problems. During my studies, I found working with data tools like SQL and Python challenging and exciting as well. The way raw data can be turned into meaningful insights to drive decisions was exciting. Once I realized the potential of data engineering to make processes better and build impactful solutions, I knew this was the field for me.

How does Aays' culture influence your work and growth?

Sarthak: For me, it is the culture of innovation and collaboration at Aays that makes a real difference. We don’t just build solutions; we solve problems that matter. The environment here encourages creativity and teamwork, allowing me to take on challenging projects. Continuous learning and supportive team makes it a place where we can truly thrive.

In your role as a Senior Data Engineer, what has been the biggest challenge you have faced, and how did you overcome it?

Sarthak: One of the biggest challenges I faced was optimizing the performance of a large-scale data pipeline that experienced frequent bottlenecks. The issue required deep analysis to identify inefficiencies in data processing and storage. I overcame this by breaking down the pipeline, analyzing performance metrics, and implementing improvements like indexing, parallel processing, and partitioning. Collaborating with my team, I introduced monitoring tools that not only resolved the bottlenecks but also improved overall system reliability.

How does Aays' culture support mentorship and team growth?

Sarthak: Aays places a strong emphasis on mentorship and team development. I believe in keeping communication open and fostering a culture where team members feel supported in their growth. We are encouraged to take full ownership and accountability, and that’s how confidence builds. Whether it’s through constructive feedback, knowledge sharing, or leading by example, I ensure my team members have the resources they need to succeed.

What advice would you give to someone starting a career in data engineering?

If you are just starting out, focus on building a strong foundation in SQL, Python, and cloud technologies. Understanding data modeling, ETL processes, and database optimization is crucial. Apart from that, adaptability and curiosity are the key traits for success in this field. Also, collaboration and communication are as important as technical skills.

What inspires you to keep pushing boundaries in your role?

Sarthak: The potential to make a real difference for businesses! Seeing how data-driven solutions improve processes motivates me to keep learning. Working with dedicated colleagues pushes me to give my best. Plus, data engineering is evolving rapidly, and there’s always something new to explore, which keeps things exciting.

How does Aays’ culture encourage work-life balance?

Sarthak: Aays values both professional growth and personal well-being. The management encourages employees to set boundaries and take time to recharge. For me, that means spending time outdoors, playing sports, and exploring nature. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and photography, which helps me stay creative and refreshed.

AI and data engineering are rapidly evolving. How do you stay updated on the latest tools, technologies, and industry trends?

Sarthak: I stay updated by consistently engaging with industry resources and communities. I follow tech blogs, attend webinars, and engage with platforms like Towards Data Science and KDnuggets. Networking with peers at conferences and meetups also helps me exchange ideas and stay ahead.

What emerging trends in data engineering excite you the most, and how do you see them shaping the future?

Sarthak: I’m really excited about real-time data processing and the way machine learning is becoming part of data pipelines. Tools like Apache Kafka and serverless architectures are making data streaming more efficient. AI-driven automation in pipelines is another game-changer, making systems smarter and reducing manual effort.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people at Aays might not know?

Sarthak: I have a deep interest in photography and love capturing nature and architectural landscapes during my travels.
